BOTUNI – TOKE/PUCINI
Botuni are one of the oldest examples of jewellery dating back to Illyrian times.
Due to its rich history, this beautiful filigree jewellery is associated with Šibenik and the Dalmatian hinterland, but also with the whole of Croatia. At the very beginning, botuni adorned the clothes of the Uskok people of Senj and the soldiers who defied the Turks and Venetians from Senj to the Bay of Kotor.
Croatian dukes such as Petar Zrinski wore it too. History tells us that botuni were jewellery for the nobles who adorned their garments with it. Later, botuni were used to decorate folk costumes. For example, Konavle’s traditional costume is still decorated with pucini or botuni.
Botuni or pucini were adopted as traditional jewellery, and in the 18th century new, improved designs of filigree botuni for different types of jewellery (earrings, rings, pendants se) were confirmed. Due to its long tradition and rich history, botuni are today the most sought after traditional jewellery, both among the local population and foreign tourists.
Our workshop makes a wide collection of this jewellery.
